- Give your location, policy number and a brief description of the situation.

The Claims Process
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR CLAIM.
Stay Safe and Check for Injuries
- Your safety comes first. Check if anyone is injured. If someone is hurt, call emergency services immediately.
- Switch on your hazard lights. If you have a red warning triangle, place it behind the vehicle where it is safe to do so.
- Do not admit fault. Do not argue about who caused the accident. Do not agree to pay anyone at the scene.
- Do not move the vehicles if someone is injured, killed, or if the police need to inspect the scene. If the vehicles are causing danger and it is safe to move them, take photos first and then move them out of traffic.
Document the Scene
Take clear photos of the accident scene, vehicle damage, road markings, licence plates, and any other important details. Where possible, also take a photo of the other vehicle's licence disc on the windscreen. This helps confirm the vehicle details. Collect witness details and exchange information with any third parties involved.
Report the Incident
Complete the incident report form as soon as possible. The sooner you report, the stronger your claim. Do not wait.
Your Advisor Takes Over
Your TaxiSure advisor receives your incident report and guides you step by step through your insurer's claims process.
Claim Resolution
We follow up with your insurer on your behalf until your claim is fully resolved. You focus on your operation.
At the Scene
DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.
Strong claims are built on strong evidence. Collect as much of the following as possible before leaving the scene.
Photos of the Damage
Photograph all vehicles from multiple angles. Capture the full scene including road position, signage and road markings.
Vehicle Details
Note the make, model, colour and registration of every vehicle involved. Photograph the registration plates and the licence disc on the windscreen.
Driver Information
Full name, ID number and driver's licence number for yourself and any other driver involved. Get their cell number and call it on the spot before you leave the scene. Fake numbers are common after accidents.
Witness Details
Get the names and cell numbers of any witnesses. An independent witness account can be critical if liability is disputed.
Towing Details
The name and contact details of the towing company, if your vehicle was towed.
Location and Time
Record the exact street address or GPS coordinates (location pin if possible), date and time. Note the road and weather conditions at the time of the incident.
Police Case Number
If police attended the scene, obtain the name of the police officer as well as the case number. If anyone was injured, you are legally required to report to the nearest police station within 24 hours.
Third-Party Accidents
IF A THIRD PARTY IS INVOLVED.
- Do not admit liability. Even a casual apology at the scene can be used against you in the claims process. Say nothing about fault.
- Exchange contact details. Full name, ID number, cell number of the other driver.
- Get their insurer details. Exchange insurance information if you can.
- Photograph their vehicle. Registration plate, damage and full vehicle. Do this before anyone moves if it is safe to do so.
- Do not settle at the scene. Never agree to a cash settlement. Route everything through the formal insurance process.
- Report if required by law. If anyone was injured or killed, report to the nearest police station within 24 hours and obtain a case number.

Call Your AdvisorSouth African Road Law
RULES OF THE ROAD.
These rules apply to all breakdowns and accidents on South African roads. Knowing them protects you, your passengers and your insurance claim.
- Pull over out of traffic immediately.
Move your vehicle as far to the left off the road as possible. Never stop in an active lane. Your safety and the safety of your passengers comes first.
- Switch on your hazard lights immediately.
Do this even in broad daylight. Hazard lights warn all oncoming and following traffic that your vehicle is stationary or moving slowly.
- Place your red warning triangle at least 150m behind the vehicle.
Position the triangle far enough behind the vehicle to give oncoming drivers adequate warning before they round a bend or crest a hill. On high-speed roads and highways, increase this distance further.
- Move passengers well away from the road.
Get all passengers off the road and as far from passing traffic as possible. If a barrier or guard rail is available, position passengers behind it.
- Do not move an injured person unless in immediate danger.
Moving an injured person incorrectly can cause serious additional harm, especially to the spine and neck. Only move them if there is an immediate threat such as fire or flooding. Wait for emergency services.
- If the vehicle cannot be moved, call roadside assist first, then emergency services.
Contact your insurer's 24-hour roadside assist line to begin vehicle recovery. If there are injuries or a risk to other road users, also contact 10111 (SAPS) or 112 (emergency from any cell phone).
- Do not leave the scene of an accident.
It is a criminal offence under the National Road Traffic Act to leave the scene of an accident in which someone was injured, killed or in which property was damaged, without providing your details or reporting to the nearest police station.
- Report to police within 24 hours if anyone was injured or killed.
This is a legal requirement. Visit the nearest police station, provide a full statement and obtain a case number. Your insurer will require this case number to process your claim.
